These issues were so significant that I discussed some of them in class during the school year. What was completely unbelievable to me was the number of students who openly didn't care about the harmful effects of abusive drinking that I discussed. It was almost as if they couldn't care less about the facts and how these effects can shatter their lives. For the first time in my life I started to figure out a saying that my grandfather used to emphasize all through my youth: "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink."

And even at my young age, I also started to understand how liberating, beneficial, and important it is to keep away from the debilitating and unhealthy outcomes of drug and alcohol abuse if you want to be successful in life.
