A Married Couple Gets Anxious About Their Heavy Drinking And Contemplates Whether They Display Any Alcohol Dependency Signs
Angie and Lenny have been married for four years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have a family and so they intentionally fashioned a very active social life.
The major issue, it needs to be pointed out, is that very nearly everything they do socially includes drinking. For example, all of the dinner engagements, family get-togethers, happy hours, sporting events, and parties with friends they attend somehow involve drinking.
If they were moderate or responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a big issue. Since they drink rather excessively, however, they are starting to see some noticeable alcohol-related problems in their lives.
For instance, a short time ago Lenny was arrested for his first DWI and has been taking time off from work due to alcohol-related health problems. Moreover, Lenny's last two or three performance evaluations at work have been less than commendable and he has started to forget what he says or does while he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family has begun to worry about his drinking behavior.
Similarly, Angie has been feeling dejected about life in general and to cope with this, she has been drinking more than any time in the past four years. Furthermore, Angie has been getting a lot of headaches and suffering from dreadful hangovers after drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling substantially less energetic when she awakens, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been receiving some strong criticism from her friends, relatives, family members, and coworkers about her excessive and hazardous drinking.
One Tuesday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie flipped through the channels and found a remarkable program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television program was a real eye opener to Lenny and Angie because many of the alcohol facts that were featured appeared as if they were directly correlated with many of the alcohol related drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been experiencing.
With thoughts of the TV program still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or perhaps becoming addicted to alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the local alcohol rehab clinic to find out more about the gravity of their drinking problems.
Ironically, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was noticeable that Angie and Lenny were at least dealing with their drinking difficulties, they were willing to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were concerned about how they could substantially decrease or do away with the alcohol-related problems that had started to deteriorate even further.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they decided that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse treatment center located downtown just outside of the business district. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the alcohol-related problems that had emerged in their lives, they actually had the most peaceful night's sleep they could recall in the last five weeks.
